DESPITE BEING TOLD that the 16-year-old girl who was abducted and raped by her ex-boyfriend was undergoing counselling from the Victims Support Unit, Resident Magistrate (RM) Winsome Henry ordered that her accuser be remanded in custody yesterday.
RM Winsome Henry ordered that Kimani Ambersley, a 21-year-old taxi operator of Glendevon, St. James, remain in custody until his next court hearing on May 19.
This was the fourth time he has been denied bail. Ambersley has been in custody since February 28 on charges of abduction, rape and carnal abuse.
SERIOUSLY TRAUMATISED
When the matter was first mentioned before the court in March, the investigating officer informed the judge that the victim had been seriously traumatised by the incident and had contemplated committing suicide.
The allegations are that on February 28, the teen, who had a sexual relationship with the Ambersley since she was 11 years old, went to school where she saw the accused man in a car.
It is said that he began to push the girl into the vehicle and a security guard confronted him.
Further allegations are that he told the guard that he was a relative of the girl. She was coerced into the vehicle and taken to a home in Norwood where the accused forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
The school reportedly notified the police, and Ambersley along with the girl were held later that same day. The court also learnt that Ambersley would use violence and force whenever the teen refused to have sex with him.
