DEFENDING CHAMPIONS PORTSMOUTH and first timers Elevation are joint leaders of Group A in the Petcom Portmore Metropolitan Cricket League after scoring easy victories over Ken's Wildflower and Washington CC respectively in last Sunday's round of matches.
Portsmouth and Elevation leads Group A, with 12 points each, followed by Ken's Wildflower with eight points, while Washington CC holds the cellar position without a point.
Portsmouth beat Ken's Wildflower for the second time this season, after a five-wicket victory on their home grounds. Ken's Wildflower batted first and stumbled to 136 all out in 32.4 overs. Norman Malcolm 3-9 and Hugh Hinds 2-14 took most wickets for Portsmouth. Portsmouth then piled up 139-5 in 23.5 overs with Bryan Blair, 40, and Nene McNally unbeaten on 29. Denworth Barber bagged 4-44 in a losing effort.
At the Bridgeport Cricket Ground Elevation demolished Cinderella team Washington CC by 161 runs. Elevation won the toss and batted rattling up 222-6 off 35 overs. Openers Dwight Williams, 39, and Kenneth Harris, 59, scored the first 100 partnership of the league as they put on 108 for the first wicket.
Brian Latore, 40, and Liston Brown, 40 also made useful scores. Carlos Goucal 2-46 was Washington's most successful wicket taker. Trevor Deans 3-6, and Marlon Gardener 3-7 helped to bundle out Washington CC for 61, as only Evroy Burke, 30, and Danny Thompson, 15, made it to double figures, as seven players went back into the pavilion without scoring.
Over in Group B, joint leaders Waterford (8) and Cumberland (8) will play their top-of-the-tables match this Sunday as their match was postponed because of a row over the use of the venue. The other Group B match between Cumberland and Belmont ended in a draw as rain put a damper on proceedings.
Scores: Cumberland 139 all out (25 overs); Odane Hutchinson 46; Kevin Hinds 4-8 (4 overs); Wayne Graham 3-9 (6 overs). Belmont 17-1 (2.4 overs).
