By Rasbert TurnerFIFTY NINE-YEAR-OLD taxi-operator Thelbert Mitchell, of Bridgeport, Portmorel, was sentenced to three months imprisonment at hard labour for attempting to bribe a police corporal, earlier this year.
The court heard evidence that on May 25, this year about 2 p.m., Corporal Jason Sinclair of the Spanish Town Police Traffic Department, stopped a Toyota motorcar driven by Mitchell.
Upon close examination of Mitchell's insurance documents, they were proven to be fictitious. The police then charged Mitchell for having fictitious documents. He was subsequently granted bail.
On June 1, Mitchell contacted the police corporal and promised to give him $10,000 to drop the case against him. The corporal reported the matter to detective corporal Harrock Darnels, and a sting operation was set up and Mitchell was held handing over the money to the policeman. He pleaded guilty.
After he was sentenced, Resident Magistrate Lorna Errar-Gayle, told Mitchell, the reason she has been lenient on him, is because of his age.
