Man charged for Caymanas guard killing

MCKAY SECURITY LIMITED and the St. Catherine South police have a suspect behind bars and are hunting for at least one other man allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of security officer Edward Green.

Kanija Barnes, also known as 'Che', has been charged with the murder of Green, who was shot dead while on duty at the Gregory Park entrance to Caymanas Park on July 26.

Police sources said the accused man is well-known in the Gregory Park area and has been involved in several incidents near the Caymanas Park racetrack.

McKay Security, which had posted a $200,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Green's killers, says the reward still stands as another suspect, Marlon Brown, also known as 'Backto' or 'Sniper', is being sought in connection with the killing.

Barnes and Brown are both from the volatile 'Gulf' area of Gregory Park. Green was killed and relieved of his firearm in full view of several Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) employees, who were attending an inter-company football match at the Racing Playfield, a stone's throw away from the guardhouse where the security officer was attacked by three men.

FIERCE GUY

Inspector Leslie Ashman of the Portmore CIB has described Brown as a "fierce guy". "He's linked to the murder of Green and other persons in the area," the police inspector told THE PORTMORE STAR.

"He's of slim build, dark complexion, five feet nine or ten inches tall," Ashman described the suspect.

"He sports long hair, sometimes plaited or loose and frequents the Gregory Park area, Compound, Watson Grove, Christian Pen and also Spanish Town. He's a fierce guy and wanted for questioning in several murders by the St. Catherine South Police Division," he added.

Jason McKay, chief executive officer of McKay Security, who had announced Barnes' detention while reading the eulogy at Green's funeral service, said McKay Security takes care of its own and has promised to leave no stone unturned in the hunt for the remaining suspects.
