Bailey wins in Arlington

JAMAICA OLYMPIC RELAY champion Aleen Bailey continued the good form she showed last year, to register a victory in the 100 metres at the Arlington Invitational over the weekend. Bailey, who joined Olympic 200 metres champion Veronica Campbell, Sherone Simpson, Sydney 100 metres bronze medallist Tanya Lawrence to capture the 4x100 metres record at the Athens Olympics, sprinted away to victory in 11.21 seconds, her fastest ever season-opening time.

The Glen Mills-coached speedster finished ahead of improving St Kitts and Nevis runner Virgil Hodge who crossed the line in 11.39 seconds.

Field success

Hodge returned in the 200 metres to finish second in 23.77 seconds behind Jamaica-born American Olympic 4x400 metres relay champion Sanya Richards who did the half lap in 22.89 seconds.

Jamaican hurdler Keisha Browne was victorious in the 100 metres obstacle race in 13.65 seconds for Barton County College. The region's success continued in the field when former CARIFTA high jump champion Shaunette Davidson of Barton County won the vertical leap with a 1.83 metres effort.

In men's action Trinidad and Tobago's Cleavon Dillon of Texas Christian University (TCU) raced to a speedy 10.34 seconds to win the 100 metres ahead of St Kitts and Nevis Delwayne Delaney, who crossed the line in 10.62 seconds.

Dillon returned to take make his mark in the long jump, winning the event with a 7.80 metres effort.
