IT WAS SECOND time unlucky for Bensonton All Age as after going down 19 to 10 to Village All Age in netball, their cricket team was outclassed by Clapham All Age by 5 wickets in the finals of the WINDALCO Mines/ Agricul-tural Cricket and Netball competition at Rio Hoe Community Centre on Friday July 2.
Scores were Bensonton 128 for 7 off 30 overs, Clapham 131 for 5 off 19 overs.
Bensonton was reeling on 14 for 2, Rohan Thomas 2 and Gawayne Smith 1 sent back by Kevoy Waugh and Anthoy Lyons respectively, before Vincent Nembhard 35, and Alrick Onfroy 26 steadied ther ship. They entertained the gathering with a third wicket stand of 74 before Nembhard was trapped lbw by captain Kavaughn Tucker and with Onfroy going 6 runs later hit wicket off Erwin Elleston. The remaining batsmen found it difficult to maintain the momentum. Rennel Powell made 10 and extras were a healthy 33.
Lyon's and Elleston's 2 for 31 off 6 overs each were the leading Clapham bowlers.
Clapham was 50 for 3 with Romarlo Robertson 0, Alvin Simmonds 0 and Hugh Grant 1 back in the pavilion and Ivanhoe Brodber retiring hurt on 5, before Tucker joined opener Waugh 27 in a fourth wicket partnership of 48.
Rushane Perry was run-out for 9 with the score tied, but Tucker 42 not out (4 fours) saw his team safely home with 11 overs to spare. Extras were even higher this time, a massive 47, as Onfroy bagged 2 for 19 off 5 overs.
Both Clapham and Village walked away with the WINDALCO mines/agricultural trophy and the runner's up also received trophies. Alderton All Age was adjudged the most disciplined school and was presented with a trophy and the other schools received certificates of participation.
Kavaughn Tucker Clapham scored most runs (104) and will receive a scholarship to Ocho Rios High and Cornel Campbell of Turnberry All Age took most wickets (18). Latoya Basco of Kensington All Age scored most baskets in netball (80) and was awarded a scholarship to Marcus Garvey Technical.
The scholarship winners will have their tuition paid by WINDALCO for the duration of their high school years if they are able to maintain an academic average of 75 per cent.
Phillip Servite, Regional Development Officer for the West Indies Cricket Board was also in attendance and presented a set of cricket gears to Clapham All Age.
