EXED doing well

THE EDITOR, Madam:

It was nice to see EXED Community College being ranked among "the excellent group" of this year's Jamaica Cultural Development Commission finalists.

Sheree Wheeler and Orville Hall, through their individual speech performances, brought great honour to themselves and their school, EXED Community College and showed the judges that they are a cut above the rest.

The effects of the promotion of the arts in our tertiary level institutions have only started to show. Many of our tertiary level institutions still refuse, for some strange reason, to promote the arts and as a result the talent of many students entering such institutions has become dormant.

Excelsior Community College is now reaping the fruits of the late Ted Dwyer's labour as principal. While Mr. Dwyer was principal of EXED Community College he made sure to lay a foundation in the arts that would foster growth and development in that area.

Year after year the results of the JCDC competitions demonstrate to us that excellent talent is everywhere in Jamaica.

I am, etc.,

HUGH ANDERSON BLAIR
