THE HOSTILITIES IN the South St. Andrew constituency may have come to an end after the parties involved allegedly came to an agreement at a private meeting yesterday.
Reports reaching THE STAR indicate that the meeting involved Arnett Gardens area leader, George Phang and key figures in the uprising against him.
Sources connected with both sides of the feud said that it was agreed that all shootings, intimidation and threats would cease.
No further details of what was discussed were being released as the media was fingered by some as helping to prolong the ongoing tensions. Efforts to speak with the Member of Parliament Omar Davies, proved futile yesterday.
News of the meeting came as a relief and brought hope to the community's residents.
"Bwoy, mi glad fi hear bout di meeting that is a right move because dis fighting ting only a hurt di whole a Jungle," said one male resident.
Meanwhile, another woman told THE STAR "Is di man dem involve have to stop it, so me glad fi see dat dem decide fi stop it."
However, there were those who were not as optimistic.
"Dem bwoy yah caan cool, dem love fi see people dead so me haffi see it done wid my own two eye first before me can believe it," said one middle-age woman.
The feuding in the constituency escalated on Good Friday, when Anthony 'Chuncie' Folkes, a friend of Phang, was murdered. Since then the community became the scene of running gun battles between opposing factions and heavy joint police military patrols combed the area.
