By DENISE CLARKE, Staff ReporterWestern Bureau:
UP TO LATE last evening, the Negril Police were still questioning ten men, who were detained in connection with the robbery of a villa in the resort town, which left one tourist injured.
The tourist received injuries to his head, when gunmen invaded the Tigress Cottages in the West End area of the resort town, where he was staying.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) report that at about 3 a.m. a group of men armed with guns entered the property and tied up the security guard. The men then entered several rooms and robbed about 15 guests of cash and jewelry. One guest who resisted their demands was hit in the head. He was treated at the Savanna la Mar Hospital.
The Member of Parliament for the area, Dr. Wykeham McNeil, told the Star yesterday that arising from discussions in the aftermath of the incident, three rent-a-car companies have agreed to assist the police with transportation.
He said the Negril Police have had problems with a chronic shortage of transportation, which has affected their response time.
He said two of four motor vehicles promised should be turned over to the Negril Police today.
Yesterday's robbery follows a similar incident last September in which a number of guests staying at Falcon Cottages in Negril were robbed of cash and valuables amounting to $30,000.
The gardener employed to the property, Robert Legg, was shot and killed during that incident.
Additional police personnel had been dispatched to the resort town following last year's robbery.
