Accused killer for court

By CLAUDETTE HOUSEN, STAR Writer

Western Bureau:

THE MAN ACCUSED of murdering a district constable in a shooting incident outside a Cash Pot Outlet, in Bickersteth, St. James, last September, is booked to appear before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court next Wednesday.

The accused man, 19-year-old Ricardo 'Lando' Murray, of Copse District in Hanover, was charged with the murder of district constable Leon 'Laddy' Bailey, following an identification parade in Montego Bay last week.

Eyewitnesses positively identified him as the man who fired the fatal bullets.

Reports are that at about 7 p.m. on September 7, 2003, DC Bailey was at the Cash Pot outlet buying a ticket, when two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, pounced on him and opened fired. He was shot in the head and died on the spot.

After the shooting, the killer and his companion reportedly fled the scene in a white Toyota Corolla car. Following intensive investigation by the police, Murray was held in a pre-dawn operation in the Cambridge area. The other man is still being sought.
