Baby bail - Alleged kidnapper has fine reduced

Tashieka Mair, Star Writer

western bureau

A Trelawny woman who allegedly kidnapped a six-month-old baby had her $200,000 bail offer reduced and conditions attached to her bond when she appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Kimone Gouzang of Wakefield, who was unable to take up the $200,000 bail offer made on October 12, had that figure reduced to $100,000 with one or two sureties.

She was ordered to report to the Wakefield police on Mondays and Fridays and warned not to interfere with the complainant who also lives in Trelawny.

Long period

A preliminary enquiry date was set for November 29 for Gouzang who is being represented by attorney-at-law Sharon Barnes.

She told the court that her client was leaving the hospital with the baby after the complainant had left her for a long period and did not return.

However, RM Winsome Henry responded that the accused should have taken the appropriate step by taking the child to the police, which is adjacent to the hospital.

Check up

Allegations are that the complainant took her baby to the Cornwall Regional Hospital on September 18 to get a check-up when she met and spoke to Gouzang for the first time.

Further allegations are that the complainant left her child with the accused while she went to fill a prescription.

When she returned, both the accused and the baby were missing. The complainant made a report to the Mount Salem police.

Ms. Gouzang was held shortly after the complainant saw her leaving the hospital compound in a taxi and raised an alarm. The police intercepted the vehicle and she was arrested.
